Hurricane Ida Officially Identified & Named By U.S. Weather Service on Nov. 4, 2009
A Tropical Storm formed at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (E,S,T,) on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 in the western Caribbean Sea, about 75 miles east of Bluefields, Nicaragua and was given the name Tropical Storm Ida by the U.S. National Weather Service Hurricane Center. The storm was named after reaching maximum sustained winds of near 60 miles per hour as it moved to the west-northwest toward the east coast of Nicaragua.
The storm strengthened the following day into Hurricane Ida, a category 1 hurricane with winds of about 75 miles per hour, as it headed north through eastern Nicaragua toward Honduras after making landfall.
