Terrorism Insurance and Political Evacuation Coverage
Many of the Travel Insured International plans include terrorism as a covered reason for Trip Cancellation or Interruption. Terrorism insurance coverage is provided when:
- there is a defined terrorist attack (means an incident deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Government),
- this occurs within the territorial limits of a city on the insured traveler’s itinerary, and
- this occurs within 30 days of the traveler’s scheduled departure date
In addition, Travel Insured’s Cancel for Any Reason option - available as an upgrade for either Worldwide Trip Protector (WTP) travel insurance or Worldwide Trip Protector Gold travel insurance - is specifically designed to address coverage for situations that fall outside any policy definition of a terrorist act.
Cancel for Any Reason can be purchased up to 30 days from initial trip deposit with the Worldwide Trip Protector Gold plan, or up to 14 days from initial trip deposit with the Worldwide Trip Protector plan. Cancel for Any Reason allows the insured traveler to cancel for any reason up to 48 hours prior to his or her scheduled departure date and receive up to 75% reimbursement of the nonrefundable trip cost. This optional coverage, by definition, eliminates any concern over whether or not an attempted or actual act of terrorism falls within a defined area of policy coverage.
In related coverage, it is noteworthy that Travel Insured's Worldwide Trip Protector Gold plan includes Political Evacuation Services of up to $100,000 in the event that a political emergency situation occurs due to government or social upheaval while the insured traveler is in a foreign country. The coverage pays for Travel Insured’s assistance company to evacuate the insured to a place of safety and then to home, or to maintain contact with the insured traveler during a hostile situation until such time as it is possible to arrange evacuation or the emergency has passed.
