Plans That Offer The Optional Sports Coverage

The Sports Upgrade offers three advantages for travelers who participate in sporting activities.

Medical

Most importantly, the upgrade extends Emergency Accident and Sickness Medical Expense coverage to include sporting activities that would otherwise not be covered, such as bodily contact sports, skydiving, hang gliding, parachuting, any form of racing, bungee cord jumping, spelunking/caving, extreme skiing, and mountaineering (below 15,000 feet).

Please note that many sports activities, such as golf, skiing (non-extreme), and hiking (non-extreme), are already included under Emergency Accident and Sickness Medical Expense and do not require the Sports Equipment/Medical/Fees upgrade for medical coverage.

Equipment

The Sports Equipment/Medical/Fees upgrade reimburses rental expenses, up to $1,000 per person, for sports equipment such as golf clubs or skis if your own equipment is delayed or lost.

Please note that replacement costs for lost sports equipment is included separately under Baggage & Personal Effects coverage.

Fees

The Sports Equipment/Medical/Fees also covers pre-paid, non-refundable green fees, ski passes, sports instruction fees and other sports expenses that you may forfeit as the result of a covered Trip Cancellation/Interruption.
