Hurricane Irene Officially Identified & Named By U.S. Weather Service on Aug. 20, 2011

A Tropical Storm was identified at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 after reaching sustained winds of 50 miles per hour at a location in the Atlantic Ocean about 190 miles east of Dominica. It was given the name Tropical Storm Irene by the U.S. National Weather Service Hurricane Center, and strengthened to become Hurricane Irene (75+ mph winds)  as it moved to the northwest over Puerto Rico.

 

Travel Insured International plans purchased on or before Aug. 19, 2011 can provide coverage for adverse weather claims due to Hurricane Irene or its resulting weather pattern. Travel Insured plans can provide coverage for adverse weather claims due to future tropical storms and their resulting weather patterns provided plans are purchased by the day before the date on which a covered storm is identified and named by the U.S. National Weather Service.
