A Tropical Storm was identified at 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 29, 2010 after reaching maximum sustained winds of 40 m.p.h. in the Atlantic Ocean about 200 miles southeast of Barbados. It was given the name Tomas by the U.S. National Weather Service. The storm subsequently strengthened into Hurricane Tomas as it moved west into the Caribbean Sea with sustained winds exceeding 75 miles per hour.
