A Tropical Storm was identified at 8 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 17, 2011 after reaching sustained winds of 40 miles per hour at a location about 100 miles northwest of Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. It was given the name Tropical Storm Bret by the U.S. National Weather Service Hurricane Center, and was moving north-northeast over the Atlantic.
