Travelers could be in for longer waits at the airport this week, after the Federal Aviation Administration imposed furloughs on air traffic controllers despite claims by some lawmakers that the agency could have complied with the sequester in other ways. The FAA has estimated there could be flight delays of about 90 minutes during peak periods.
If travel delays are caused, Travel Insured policy holders may be eligible for coverage. Trip Delay coverage is triggered for any delay of a Common Carrier, and subject to different requirements for the length of delay (6 or 12 hours) for coverage to apply.
Select Travel Insured policies also provide Trip Cancellation coverage when a covered Trip Delay causes you to lose 50% or more of your scheduled trip. Customers are strongly encouraged to read their Certificate of Insurance or Insurance Policy for details regarding their available coverage.
