Travel Delay Alert - Lufthansa Strike

by Erin Weiland | Apr 22, 2013

Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline was virtually grounded on Monday, cancelling nearly all of its flights because of a second strike in a month over workers' pay. Approximately 1,700 flights have been cancelled, leaving only 30 still running at Germany's biggest airports, including Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg. Lufthansa has set up toll-free informational hotlines for passengers affected by the strike actions. For calls from the USA: 1-800-645-3880; for calls from Canada: 1-800-563-5954.

If travel delays are caused, Travel Insured policy holders may be eligible for coverage. Trip Delay coverage is triggered for any delay of a Common Carrier, and subject to different requirements for the length of delay (6 or 12 hours) for coverage to apply.

Select Travel Insured policies also provide Trip Cancellation coverage when a covered Trip Delay causes you to lose 50% or more of your scheduled trip. Customers are strongly encouraged to read their Certificate of Insurance or Insurance Policy for details regarding their available coverage.
