Frequent travelers have known for more than 25 years that the most complete, accurate guide to airport ground transportation worldwide was the Airport Transit Guide, published by Editor and Publisher Ron Salk of Salk International, LLC, based in Long Beach, CA. The problem was that local transit information at many of the 460 airports included in the guide, such as taxi fares and maps, would change from year to year. The changes over time rendered a print version of the handy pocket-sized guide partially outdated, yet loyal travel fans continued to purchase newer versions thanks to the guide's updated editions.
Salk announced in December that the publisher has now solved the information obsolescence problem by dropping the print version and publishing a 25th edition of Airport Transit Guide in a digital app version only. The publisher announced that the ebook version of the guide, available as a download from the iTunes Store for $9.99, will include free periodic updates to users. It can be downloaded to iPhone, iPod and iPad for use and versions will be released this year for Blackberry and Android.
Among other ground transportation details included for each of the 460 U.S. and international airports in the Airport Transit Guide are taxi rates from each airport to its city and outlying points; tipping advice; web site and phone listings of airports, taxi and shuttle services; airport coach, limo and van shuttle schedules and prices; train, subway and public bus fares, schedules and routes; parking rates and car rental information; inter-airport connections; airport-to-cruise port transfers, and helicopter services.
