Cash Advantage Over Airline/Cruise Cancellation Policies

Travel Insured’s cash reimbursement benefit is an advantage for you to consider when choosing a travel protection plan. While some plans only offer credit towards a specific company, with a deadline, and only for a narrow range of reasons, Travel Insured provides coverage for the many reasons listed below, and with cash claims settlements, so you can decide if, when, and how you want to rebook your trip.

Sickness or Injury
The Sickness or Injury of You or Your Family Member, Your Traveling Companion or their Family Member, or Your Business Partner or their Family Member. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
Pre-existing Condition Exclusion Waiver*
The exclusion for Pre-Existing Conditions will be waived provided you purchase your plan within 21 days of the date your initial trip deposit is received, insure all Prepaid Trip costs subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions, insure any subsequent Travel Arrangements added to your trip within 21 days of payment or deposit, and if you are not disabled from travel at the time you purchase your plan. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
 
Death
The death of You or Your Family Member, Your Traveling Companion or Your Traveling Companion’s Family Member or Your Business Partner or Your Business Partner's Family Member. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
Bankruptcy / Default
Bankruptcy or Default of an airline, cruise line, tour operator or other travel provider (other than the Travel Supplier, tour operator, travel agency, organization or firm from whom You purchased Your Travel Arrangements) causing a complete cessation of travel services more than 14 days following Your Effective Date. Benefits will be paid due to Bankruptcy or Default of an airline only if no alternate transportation is available. If alternate transportation is available, benefits will be limited to the change fee charged to allow You to transfer to another airline in order to get to Your intended destination. This benefit only applies if the Policy has been purchased within 21 days of the date Your initial deposit/payment for Your Trip is received.
 
Inclement Weather
Inclement Weather that causes complete stoppage of services for at least 24 consecutive hours of the Common Carrier (such as airline or train) on which You are scheduled to travel.
Traffic Accident en Route to Departure
You or Your Traveling Companion is directly involved in a traffic accident, substantiated by a police report, while en route to Your scheduled point of departure.
Host Unable to Provide Accommodations
Your family or friends living abroad with whom You are planning to stay are unable to provide accommodations due to life threatening illness, life threatening injury or death of one of them.
Destination Evacuation
Mandatory evacuation ordered by local government authorities at Your Trip destination (or official public evacuation notices or recommendations without a mandatory evacuation order issued) due to adverse weather or Natural Disaster.
 
NOAA Hurricane Warning at Destination
A cancellation of Your Trip within 48 hours of Your Scheduled Departure Date and time if Your Trip destination is under a hurricane warning issued by the NOAA National Hurricane Center, provided the cancellation of Your Trip occurs more than 14 days following Your Effective Date of coverage for the Trip Cancellation Benefits.
 
Strike
Unannounced Strike that causes complete stoppage of services for at least 24 consecutive hours of the Common Carrier (such as airline or train) on which You are scheduled to travel.
Felonious Assault
Felonious assault of You or Your Traveling Companion within 10 days of the Scheduled Departure Date.
Terrorist Incident
A Terrorist Incident that occurs within 30 days of Your Scheduled Departure Date in a city listed on the itinerary of Your Trip.
Hijack / Quarantine / Jury Duty
You or Your Traveling Companion is hijacked, quarantined, required to serve on a jury, or served with a court order to appear as a witness in a legal action in which You or Your Traveling Companion is not a party. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
Military Leave Revocation
Revocation of Your or Your Traveling Companion’s previously granted military leave or reassignment. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
School Year Extension
The primary or secondary school that You, Your Family Member or Traveling Companion attends extends beyond the predetermined school year and falls within your dates of travel. Extensions due to extra-curricular or athletic events are not covered. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
 
Home or Destination Uninhabitable
Your or Your Traveling Companion’s primary place of residence or destination becomes uninhabitable and remains uninhabitable during Your scheduled Trip by fire, flood, burglary or other Natural Disaster. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
Military Duty for National Disaster
You, Your Family Member, or your Traveling Companion is in the military and called to emergency duty for a national disaster other than war.
Pregnancy / Attending Childbirth
Your or Your Traveling Companion’s normal pregnancy or attending the childbirth of Your Family Member. The pregnancy must occur after the plan's Effective Date and be verified by medical records.
 
Theft of Passports/Visa
A documented theft of passports or visas.
 
50% or more Trip Loss
A cancellation of Your Trip if Your arrival on the Trip is delayed, and You lose 50% or more of the scheduled Trip duration due to the reasons covered under the Missed Connection Benefit.
 
Employer Termination
Involuntary employer termination or layoff of You or a Traveling Companion. Employment must have been with the same employer for at least 1 continuous year.
Cancel for Work Reasons
Work-related reasons for you or your traveling companion such as requirement to work during planned vacation, transfer to other city, merger/acquisition, or interruption of company operations due to disaster or bankruptcy. Cancel for Work Reasons is included in Worldwide Trip Protector Plus and Worldwide Trip Protector. You can purchase the option on Trip Protector Lite for $24 per person. Job Loss is already a covered reason for Trip Cancellation without the purchase of the Cancel for Work Reasons option.

Cancel for Any Reason**
Cancel For Any Reason benefits will be paid for 75% of the prepaid, non-refundable trip cost provided you purchase a plan within 21 days of the date your initial trip deposit is received, insure all non-refundable trip costs, insure subsequent travel arrangements added to your trip within 21 days of payment, and cancel 48 hours or more before your scheduled departure date. Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements.
   
Interruption for Any Reason**
If You interrupt Your Trip, 72 hours or more after Your actual Departure Date, for any reason not otherwise covered by this Policy, benefits will be paid, up to the lesser of a) the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in Your Confirmation of Benefits; or b) 75% the total amount of coverage You purchased, to reimburse You for unused non-refundable land or water Travel Arrangements; Refer to plan document for specific details and eligibility requirements

Trip Cancellation vs. Trip Interruption

Trip Cancellation applies after you purchase your plan but before departure. Trip Interruption applies after departure (or if you must join your trip after your scheduled departure date). The same reasons are covered for both Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption for the most part.

Covered Costs for Trip Cancellation

  • unused prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs
  • cancellation penalties
  • higher per-person trip costs for you if your travel companion cancels for a covered reason

Covered Costs for Trip Interruption

  • unused, prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs
  • additional transportation costs to return from, to join or to rejoin the trip
  • coverage up to 150% of trip cost on our Worldwide Trip Protector Plus and Worldwide Trip Protector plans.

Travel Delay, Missed Connection and Itinerary Change

Travel Delay, Missed Connection and Itinerary Change are offered in our plans as benefits separate from Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption.
