What Trip Delay Covers
Provides reimbursement for a covered reason, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, for the unused, forfeited, prepaid non-refundable Payments or Deposits for the Travel Arrangements, Reasonable Additional Expenses, plus the Additional Transportation Cost paid if Your Trip is delayed from the original departure time to:
- join Your Trip if You must depart after Your Scheduled Departure Date or travel via alternate travel arrangements;
- rejoin Your Trip from the point where You interrupted Your Trip to the next Scheduled Destination; or
- transport You to Your originally scheduled return or final destination of Your Trip.
Covered Reasons for Trip Delay
- Common Carrier delay
- a traffic accident in which you or your traveling companion are not directly involved while en route to your scheduled trip departure city or scheduled destination
- you are hijacked or quarantined
- documented theft of passports or travel documents specifically required for your trip
- unannounced strike results in complete cessation of services of a Common Carrier on which you are scheduled to travel, which prevents you from reaching our scheduled destination
- inclement weather that causes a delay or complete cessation of services, preventing you from getting to your scheduled destination
- due to a natural disaster, mandatory evacuation order or recommendation by local government authorities is issued at your scheduled trip departure city or scheduled destination
- security breach, civil disorder or riot while at an airport or other port
