12/31/2016 - Baghdad and Najaf Terrorist Attacks

by Kellyn Uhelsky | Jan 05, 2017

Travel Insured International has determined that the U.S. Department of State’s position on the Baghdad and Najaf attacks on December 31, 2016 and January 2, 2017 is that they were both an act of terrorism and confirms to travelers that coverage against politically-motivated terrorist attacks may be included in plans purchased under the company's Worldwide Trip Protector brand including Worldwide Trip Protector Plus, Worldwide Trip Protector, Worldwide Trip Protector Lite, and Airline Ticket Protector.

Travel Insured plan holders who purchased coverage on or before December 30, 2016, and whose itineraries include Baghdad or Najaf may be eligible for Terrorism coverage within the Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption or Trip Delay benefits.

The plans provide Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption coverage when a politically-motivated terrorist attack occurs within the territorial limits of a city listed on the insured's travel itinerary and within 30 days of the insured's departure date. To be eligible for coverage, an event must occur after the effective date of the insured traveler's Trip Cancellation coverage and by definition must be deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Government. Travelers are reminded that they must purchase a plan to obtain the coverage before the terrorism attack is launched. Once an act of terrorism begins it is no longer unforeseen, and coverage is no longer available for plans purchased on or after the date when the attack was initiated.

For insured travelers who purchased Cancel for Any Reason coverage, we remind you that cancellations must be made 48 or more hours prior to scheduled departure and payment is limited to 75% of the non-refundable trip cost up to the stated plan maximum limit.

Every Travel Insured plan also includes Non-Insurance Emergency Travel Assistance Services available 24/7 to help travelers whenever they are in need of assistance during their trip. Please refer to your actual plan document for the specific terms and conditions of the specific plan purchased as eligibility for coverage varies based upon the specific plan terms, conditions and limitations, and may vary by state or may not be available in all states. Travel Insured recommends travelers purchase proper travel protection plans in case of unforeseen circumstances and to know where to go and where not to go during their travels. Travelers should monitor information provided by the U.S State Department.

At this time, we advise travelers to take enhanced precautions. Please contact us at 1-800-243-3174 with any questions you may have. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have been affected.
