Boeing Airplane Questions for Travel Insured

by Travel Insured | Mar 14, 2019

On Sunday, March 10, a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft crashed, killing 157 people. It was the second crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 in the past five months. With several travelers concerned about their upcoming travel plans, Travel Insured clarifies a few travel insurance questions.

What if my flight is delayed?

This event may be covered by the Travel Delay and Missed Connection benefits if there is a delay of a Common Carrier. (The delay must be certified by the Common Carrier and you must be delayed for the required time period specified in you plan.)

Will I have coverage if my trip needs to be cancelled or interrupted?

Trip cancellation or trip interruption coverage could be applied if a cancellation of your trip is due to your arrival at your destination being delayed, and this ultimately causes you to lose 50% or more of the trip duration. In order for coverage to apply, the reason for the delay must be due to one of the reasons under the Missed Connection Benefit. There could also be coverage for change fees and reimbursement of miles or reward points.

What can I do if I am afraid to travel?

Unfortunately, fear is not a covered reason for trip cancellation. However, purchasing a plan with Cancel for Any Reason allows you to cancel your plans and get up to 75% of your total non-refundable trip cost as long as you decide 48 or more hours prior to scheduled departure and meet all eligibility requirements in your plan.

Please refer to your actual plan document for the specific terms and conditions of the specific plan purchased as eligibility for coverage varies based upon the specific plan terms, conditions and limitations, and may vary by state or may not be available in all states. Travel Insured recommends travelers purchase proper travel protection plans in case of unforeseen circumstances and to know where to go and where not to go during their travels. Travelers should monitor information provided by the U.S. State Department.

At this time, we advise travelers to take enhanced precautions. Please contact us at 1-800-243-3174 with any questions you may have. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have been affected.
