01/12/20 - Philippines Taal Volcano Eruption

by Travel Insured | Jan 14, 2020

Taal Volcano, located in the Philippines, erupted on January 12, 2020, causing several mandatory evacuations. Since the eruption on Sunday, authorities have set the alert level at 4. Level 5, the highest, is reserved for an eruption in progress. This confirms to travelers that coverage against natural disasters may be included in plans purchased under Travel Insured’s Worldwide Trip Protector brand including Worldwide Trip Protector Plus, Worldwide Trip Protector, and Worldwide Trip Protector Lite.

Depending on the plan, individuals whose itineraries include the Philippines may be eligible for coverage within the Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Travel Delay, and Missed Connection coverages because of a Natural Disaster.

The plans provide Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption coverage when a Natural Disaster causes the insured traveler’s destination to be rendered uninhabitable, and it remains uninhabitable during the time of the scheduled trip dates.  The destination must have been rendered uninhabitable while coverage was in effect. The Worldwide Trip Protector and Worldwide Trip Protector Plus plans also provide Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption coverage when a Natural Disaster causes local government authorities at an insured traveler’s destination to issue a mandatory evacuation order (or official public evacuation notices or recommendations without a mandatory evacuation order issued). The evacuation order, notice or recommendation must have been issued when coverage was in effect.

The plans provide Travel Delay coverage if the traveler is delayed while en route to or from, or during the trip due to a Natural Disaster.  The plans also provide Missed Connection coverage if a traveler misses a cruise or tour departure due to a delay caused by a Natural Disaster.

For insured travelers who purchased Cancel for Any Reason coverage, we remind you that cancellations must be made 48 or more hours prior to scheduled departure and payment is limited to 75% of the non-refundable trip cost up to the stated plan maximum limit.

Every Travel Insured plan also includes Non-Insurance Emergency Travel Assistance Services available 24/7 to help travelers whenever they are in need of assistance during their trip. Please refer to your actual plan document for the specific terms and conditions of the specific plan purchased as eligibility for coverage varies based upon the specific plan terms, conditions and limitations, and may vary by state or may not be available in all states. Travel Insured recommends travelers purchase proper travel protection plans in case of unforeseen circumstances.

At this time, we advise travelers to take enhanced precautions. Please contact us at 1-855-752-8303 with any questions you may have.
