Travel Insured provides answers to frequently asked questions in regard to the recent erruption of a volcano in Iceland.

East Hartford, CT - April 22, 2010 - Although volcanic activity continues in Iceland; throughout the news we see encouraging signs of a return to more normal conditions. Many stranded travelers are returning home or have plans to return home soon. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions coming into our call center and our response.
Question: “What is the coverage cut-off date for the current Iceland volcano event?”
Answer: Travel Insured policies purchased on or before April 14, 2010.
Question: “I am scheduled for future travel and purchased my insurance policy prior to this volcanic event. If this volcano subsides and then erupts again, causing my future travel plans to be disrupted, will this be considered unforeseen and could coverage apply?”
Answer: Events related to the volcanic activity in Iceland are considered as unforeseen for Travel Insured policies purchased on or before April 14, 2010.
Question: “I am scheduled to travel later this year and have not yet purchased travel insurance. If I purchase a policy today, am I covered for a future volcanic eruption in Iceland?
Answer: At this time the events of the Iceland volcano continue to progress; coverage for a future Iceland volcano eruption would require current events to subside.
Question: “Am I covered if the Iceland volcano erupts again? What about another volcano?”
Answer: Please review the terms and conditions of the policy that you purchased. A volcano is considered a natural disaster and many of our policies provide benefits specific to a natural disaster. The resulting ash cloud from the Iceland volcano was characterized as a weather related event and therefore triggered additional benefits for many of our insureds.
Question: “I have insurance and am scheduled to fly out later this week. What should I do if my flight is cancelled?”
Answer: First call your air carrier. We understand that all airlines have made rebooking passengers impacted by this event a priority. Also call Travel Insured’s 24/7 Assistance Services to help you with updated travel plans or other related service you may need while traveling.
Question: “My customers are stranded away from home. What can you do to help them?”
Answer: Your customers should contact Travel Insured’s Assistance Services. Representatives are available 24 hours a day. Our Assistance provider can help your clients weather this event with everything from locating an available hotel room to re-scheduling a flight home.
